There are, at least, three terms on teaching strategy; approaches, methods and techniques. They determine how the language is taught to the learners. They can be technical tools to assist the teacher to reach their goal of their teaching learning activities based on the Basic Outline Coarse of the lesson. In sense of language teaching learning as foreign language, approaches, methods and techniques cannot be an outer part of the activity. Approach is defines as how the language is viewed; structural achievement or communicative purpose. Meanwhile, method is supposed to be a set of philosophy view of how language is taught. It considers the philosophy and linguistic view why a particular action by students is conducted. In another words, method is a practical realizations of an approach(Jeremy Harmer, 2007:62). The latest, technique, is the operational steps of doing particular activities.
In case of the issue of the teaching learning strategy , all terms have significantly established due to the challenge of the science and technology. Language was used to be considered to be a tool of understanding literature works; it implied on the way the English teacher conducted the activities in the class by focusing more on how the students acquired sets of language formulas to comprehend texts in target language.
By the last 90th, some language practical realized that language was not merely aimed as the tool of understanding literature works any more, it was aimed as the tool of integrated communication instead. The paradigm of teaching learning should, undeniably, be changed. The focus of teaching is not on reading and structure but how the students use the language to communicate comprehensively, actively and passively.
The terms seem to be similar for common sense, but it is extremely different in term of pedagogy sense. Therefore, the terms should be clearly distinguished and comprehended.
